Road Repairs at HOWL

HOWL Grounds Coordinator, Vanessa, works with the town to correct drainage problems on the HOWL property and around the town road. Yogi, the Road Foreman, brought up his big excavator/backhoe and dump truck to clean out all the ditches. They dumped new gravel and re-graded the parking area.

HOWL is the last house on a town maintained, dead-end road. Spring 2011 storms combined with the destructive fury of Tropical Storm Irene last year caused major road damage. We hope to see radical improvement in the drainage around the parking area, walkway and house site.

Soon to be Lambing

Lambing season is just around the corner and the women of Stark Hollow Farm, Vanessa Riva and Laura Smith, are gearing up for a whole passel of cute little Icelandic lambs, approximately 35 to be exact! Stay tuned...first lambs due the last week in March.

HOWL Collective Meeting

A record number of womyn turned out for the October potluck/collective meeting. Lots of great work is being accomplished. The food was fabulous, and WOW...we ended on time!

Howl Collective Meeting: Sunday, September 21, 2014, 4:00 p.m. meeting...Open to all!

11th Step Sober Retreat, fourth Sunday, every other month...next retreat September 28th, 2014. RSVP, limited number of attendees, first come-first serve. Contact Crow Cohen 598-5898.

Orienteering Workshop: Learn how to orienteer, and take a walk on the wild side on HOWL land. Sunday, October 5, 10 AM to 3 PM. We will hike on the 50 acres of HOWL land, which is forest and (overgrown) fields. Bring bagged lunch and water as we may eat in the field. Led by experienced orienteering guide Judy Valente, who will bring maps and compasses. Develop your skills and confidence to be outdoors and find your way home. By donation.

What is HOWL

Dedicated to the conservation and stewardship of the land, HOWL (Huntington Open Women's Land) is situated on 50 beautiful acres in the heart of the Green Mountains of Vermont. It was founded in 1986, the feminist vision of a group of womyn who created a women's land trust that would provide women safe access to the healing energy that comes from the earth.

Our goal is to preserve and steward the land and collaborate in developing projects and programming, open to a diversity of women, that reflect our shared values of compassion, respect, stewardship, environmental sustainability, and love of the earth.
